They say never to work with children or animals!
That’s what I did for a sunny warm Saturday afternoon in March, well the animals part anyway. On a shoot organised by Suzanne Corgan at Paws Galore Ltd.
Suzanne looks after our very own dogs grooming & cleaning needs. The idea behind the shoot was to get some shots that Suzanne could use on her website to promote her business. The challenge for me was to take quality photos of dogs outside, running around, having fun doing what dogs do.
A challenge because up until this point I have mainly concentrated on Landscape work & Portraits. Landscapes generally don’t run around (depending on whether you’ve had a lot to drink) so you have a chance to set the camera up to suit the subject area, light conditions etc. And people as portrait subjects usually listen to hints, instructions, sit still, that sort of thing and you can move them around to suit light conditions. Dogs running around having a good time however is a completely different kettle of fish.
They will only listen to their owners and only do that when it suits them. They run very fast usually into the very worst positions for photographic purposes. This certainly doesn’t give you any opportunity to set up your camera. However as the afternoon moved on I got the hang of it, I even found a setup for the camera which generally did the trick which was nice.
I would like to thank all that came out for the afternoon, and Suzanne for arranging the shoot. I have put some examples under a new section named animals on this site
